Inspired by her own photography, archival imagery, and some of the souvenirs she’s acquired over the years, Somers set out to create her tourist version of the perfect baby tee. Featuring a shrunken fit, cap sleeves, and contrasting overlock stitching, each one is made from colorful surplus fabric and has an original embroidered logo commemorating cities like Copenhagen and Pisa, as well as monuments like Chichén Itzá, Tokyo Tower, La Sagrada Familia, and the Taj Mahal. Somers sourced richly hued deadstock sweatshirts to sport her designs as well, while ’70s beach towels were repurposed to create scrunchies. “The colors were just spot-on,” she says. It took extra time to find the right material for her candy-colored bucket hats, but vintage terry cloth holds its unique fluted shape while remaining easily packable.Drawing on a bright Alexander Girard–inspired palette, each Made Some Souvenirs piece looks as if it would fit right into one of Martin Parr’s beach photos. Of course, that’s by design. “I’m obsessed with Martin Parr, and I love any tourist photography that really gets into the nitty-gritty of people doing really silly, humorous things,” she explains. “I always want to find a lightheartedness in anything I do.” She also cites Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s direct-to-video releases like Passport to Paris and Winning London as references from childhood that have become “ingrained” over the years. “I would watch those and dream, like, ‘Oh, my God, when I’m older, I’m gonna have a romance and hop on the moped of some boy in Italy,” she says.

Working with photographer Jacq Harriet, Somers infused that wide-eyed spirit of curiosity into her brand’s summer look book. Featuring cameras, coin-operated binoculars, a blow-up globe, and a vintage Peugeot moped, each photo is a cheeky tribute to the Biden Harris 2020 Together We Rise Diversity T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this wonders of exploring a new corner of the world. Judging by the love she’s gotten from domestic and international customers alike, it seems that there are a lot of people who love seeing travel through her brightly tinted lenses. “Entering a new place and hearing a different language and just being around a new energy, that really invigorates me,” Somers says. “During the pandemic, that’s been challenging to find.” While she initially dreamt up Made Some Souvenirs in the months before coronavirus caused lockdowns and border shutdowns, the work took on new importance as she hunkered down in her Los Angeles home. “I actually haven’t traveled at all,” she says of the past year and a half. “But there will be a time to travel again, and we’ve got to have some optimism and positivity through all of this. If I can create that through my brand, then that’s great.”
